Andrew Grice in today's Independent:
On Tuesday, the Conservative Party will propose an inquiry into the conflict to ensure all lessons are learnt. It, too, is trying to rewrite history. Without its support, Mr Blair would have lost the crucial Commons vote and Britain would not have gone to war. The only party that doesn't want to rewind the tape is the Liberal Democrats, whose opposition to the war has been totally vindicated.

I find that very funny, how the tories like to pretend that vote never happened. We are right about a hell of a lot of things.
What were the Lib Dems objection to the Iraq war? The other question, of course, was why did we go to war?
"What were the Lib Dems objection to the Iraq war?"
That there was no evidence through Hans Blix of WMDs and that the UN inpsections needed more time, and that there should have been another UN mandate.
"The other question, of course, was why did we go to war?"
Because of a misjudgment by George W Bush and Tony Blair.
What a pity the LibDems can't claim to be against aggressive war, as defined by the Nuremberg War Crimes Court, as a matter of principle.
Had they not so enthusiasticly supported going to war to ethnicly cleanse Kosovo on the basis of lies about Milosevic more egregious than anthing said about Saddam they would be able to make that claim.
Unlike Iraq where the Tories can at least pretend they blieved the WMD lie nobody can claim they believed the lies told about the Yugoslavs because the Foreign Secretary had already told Parliament that the people committing atrocities were your Nazi friends in the KLA.
"We are only war criminals when it is about helping Nazis commit genocide but not when it is about oil" just doesn't have that ring to it.
